Body Color Pairings and Results

The following will try to break down some of the possible genetic results of the following breedings. This is only discussing body color and will only take into consideration head and/or breast color if it affcts or is affected by body color - thi will be notated below the breeding. The cock and hen pairings will be listed at the top in bold, with the possible outcomes below.

Body Color: You should remember from our genetics discussion that body color can be both sex linked or autosomal depending on the color we're discussing.
For purposes of discussion, a "/" sign will indicate a bird being split for a certain color. E.g., Green/Blue indicates a bird is phenotypically green but possess a blue gene. Also, Normal and Green are used interchangeably here.
Please note - for the purposes of this site I will not discuss pairings that produce ambiguous offspring. For example - pairing a green/blue bird to a green bird has a 25% chance of producing green/blue babies - but there is no way of knowing which babies are split. To save time, these breedings will not be discussed - and I highly recommend avoiding these types of breeding simply because you never know exactly what you've got.
All that being said, let's get started!

Normal Cock x Normal Hen
All of the babies would be Normal

Normal Cock x Blue Hen (or vice-versa)
All of the babies would be Green/Blue

Normal/Blue Cock x Normal/Blue Hen
25% Normal Cocks25% Normal Hens
50% Normal/Blue Cocks50% Normal/Blue Hens
25% Blue Cocks25% Blue Hens

Unless otherwise stated, the following pairings assume the birds are DF for purple breast. It is necessary to specify this because of the affect breast color has on male birds possessing yellow body genes. (Likewise, one or the other being SF for purple)

SF Yellow Cock x Green Hen
50% Green Cocks50% Green Hens
50% Dilute Cocks50% Yellow Hens

DF Yellow Cock x Green Hen
All cocks will be Dilute (SFY)
All hens will be Yellow

SF Yellow Cock x Yellow Hen
50% cocks will be Dilute (SFY)50% hens will be Green
50% cocks will be DF Yellow50% hens will be Yellow

Pairing a DF Yellow Cock to a Yellow hen would result in all DF Yellow Cocks and Yellow hens.

Normal Cock x Yellow Hen
All cocks will be Dilute (SFY)
All hens will be Green

The following pairings consider alternative breast colors and the respective results of offspring involved.

Normal Cock (SF Purple Breast) x Yellow Hen (SF Purple Breast)
50% cocks will be Dilute (SFY)100% Green Hens
50% cocks will be SF Yellow, WB Cocks

In this pairing, only those cocks with white breasts will be yellow bodied. This is because a SF yellow cock with a purple breast appears Dilute. The dilute cocks will be DF purple, or Purple/White.

In the following pairings I will not use percentages but simply tell you what the possible offspring outcomes are to save time. These will be independent of breast color.

Normal/Blue Cock x Yellow/Blue Hen
Dilute/Blue CocksNormal/Blue Hens
Pastel CocksBlue Hens

Dilute(SFY)/Blue Cock x Yellow/Blue Hen
Dilute/Blue CocksNormal/Blue Hens
Pastel CocksBlue Hens
Silver CocksSilver Hens

DF Yellow/Blue Cock x Normal/Blue Hen
Dilute/Blue CocksYellow/Blue Hens
Pastel CocksSilver Hens

Results would be the same for DF Yellow/Blue Cock x Blue Hen

DF Yellow/Blue Cock x Silver Hen
DF Yellow/Blue CocksYellow/Blue Hens
Silver CocksSilver Hens

Dilute(SFY)/Blue Cock x Silver Hen
Dilute/Blue CocksNormal/Blue Hens
DF Yellow/Blue CocksYellow/Blue Hens
Pastel CocksBlue Hens
Silver CocksSilver Hens
